Part of the Southern Vittles Collection, these three illustrated scenes depict a playfully “literal” interpretation of the Southern phrase “Hold Your Horses.” Notice the modern, bare back rider as she struggles with a rearing horse who wants to follow the herd, a runaway horse where the rider is fighting to hold on to the reins, and the rider who is somewhere in the middle of the pack. Color-filled and outlined horses move the eye around the plate as hooves kick up wildflowers in the path.
